Highlights from our team's thoughts about being a Cultural Ambassador

see more on the Personal Profiles

What are some things you have learned about being a Cultural Ambassador that really stood out to you?: I've learned that culture is extremely important in all places. I've found that it is important that all people learn about other cultures in order to understand the basics of their own.

Destination Seven: The First Time We Meet

Our greeting at the airport.

We just finished ice breakers.

We are all working on how oil spills effect the eco system

Thoughts from our team about our first day of the exchange

If you are hosting: Describe what you did to get ready for your guests arrival.: We made them an amzing sign. We got breakfast and thought of ice-breakers. We set up tours and meetings with people of the community for them to experience.
If you are hosting: What are your first impressions of the visiting Cultural Ambassadors?:
They were a little shy at first but after the first morning and ice-breakers they got way more outgoing. They were really talkative and excited to be here.
If you are hosting: What were the best moments of welcoming your visitors?:
When they ran through the sign even though we didn't think they would want to.
If you are hosting: What are you most looking forward to doing now that your guests are here?:
We are looking forward to introducing them to the school and showing them Anchorage.

Destination Seven: Getting Reacquianted

We are all together on st.paul

playing on the playground

We are all eating

Thoughts from our team about getting reacquainted

If you are visiting: Describe the trip to your Sister School Community.: The trip was really interesting. Our plane got way delayed and we took a walk outside while we waited for it to arrive. The flight was awesome. We met new people and we got a really nice welcome. They held the sign for us to run through but the wind tore it before we got to it. We had a welcoming bonfire and it was amazing!
If you are visiting: What are your first impressions of the community you are visiting?:
It is alot smaller than we thought it would be. All the people were really nice and it is a beautiful island.
If you are visiting: What were the best parts of being welcomed to the community?:
The bonfire was really fun. We got to get reacquainted with them which was nice. The community potluck was great too because we got to meet the people in the community and the elders.
If you are visiting: What are you most looking forward to doing now that you are here?:
Seeing a new culture and seeing how they live. Meeting new people was also exciting. Just by combining the culture and people, we can learn a ton about their community.

Area for Exploration One: One Thing We Must See Or Experience When We Go To St. Paul:
Hiking Palovena
What we learned. 1. the mountain is always a lot further than it looks
2. When you really go into the heart of St.paul, unexpected beauties catch the wonder of your eyes

Hiking to climb a mountain

Area for Exploration Two

What we learned. 1. Sea birds can tell more about the environment more than just the birds, such as the types of fish or plankton that are breeding in a certain time of the year
2. Alot of the species are having a decrease in population, mainly because of humans effects on the species
3. St. Paul is a very marine ecosystem rich environment
We are viewing crabs on a fishing boat

Area for Exploration Three
Bering Sea Days
What we learned. The bird population is vital to the ecosystem. St. Paul is a very eco-friendly area. Seals are dying out.
