| Destination Two: |
| You Might Be From Anchorage IF... |
If you don’t mix the Aces with a suit of cards
If you do all your shopping at Fred Meyers
If you know that one of the Seward Highways does not actually go to Seward
If you refer to the continental US as “the lower 48” or “outside”
If you go out to your car to start it and then return 5 minutes later to actually drive it
If you wear socks with your sandals
If you climb Flattop in the fall just to make a snowman
If you have a favorite pizza from Moose’s Tooth
If you pay a lot more for gas than other states even though it’s produced in your state
If you watch movies about Alaska and think, “that’s not Alaska- we don’t do that”
If you’ve ever hit a moose with your car
If you wear flip flops when it’s 20 below
If you think partly cloudy is sunny
If you get really excited about Target.
If you’ve been to the fake start of the Iditarod
If you have two sets of tires for your car
If you cringe at the thought of the solar system walk
If every time you go shopping, you see Balto
If you know the story behind Sleeping Lady
If you think of your cabin as your second home
If you go to the Lower 48 and are asked, “Do you live in igloos?”
If you get more excited when you see a squirrel than when you see a moose
If you do all your clothes shopping online
If you complain about having the worst malls in America
If you’ve seen the chocolate waterfall at Wild Berry
If you can see Mt. McKinley from your house
You might be from Service is…
If your team just won the state football tournament
If you automatically hold a grudge against anyone from South
If you know that our Little Theater was named that for a good reason
If you can distinguish the different coloring of D and G Hall, and you wonder where A Hall is.
If you refer to Dimond’s mascot as the kittens. |

Highlights from our team's thoughts about being a Cultural Ambassador
see more on the Personal Profiles |
What are some things you have learned about being a Cultural Ambassador that really stood out to you?: To keep an open mind and be respectful of the differences in cultures. To try everything and experience as much as possible. To appreciate and be aware that cultural norms are different. That we are cultural ambassadors of our culture and we must represent it well. Not to assume that one culture or way of life is better than another. Learn as much as possible from the experience. |

| Native foods and lore |
|
What we learned: "Try it you might like it"
Traditionally the foods are on one plate and everyone just eats off that plate.
While eating the walrus and whale we learned, from the people that actually harvested the animals, how they actually hunt for these species. This was also reinforced by a video of Savoonga residents hunting. |
