| Destination Two: |
| You Might Be From Chevak IF... |
you use a cardboard for a cutting board when you're eating frozen fish,
you have a hundred beaded bracelets,
you say "shee" a lot,
you have tea and crackers,
your Cross Country Running went to state for 7 years in a row,
your hang out is at all of the stores,
everyone knows your Cup'ik name,
your women's ball team say, "Aallay",
your dog follows you to school,
you run back and forth on the lake when the ice is only 2-3" thick,
you walk around in a snow storm, with goggles and other winter gear,
you go to berry camp in July or August,
you spend your summers at fish camp,
you say, "Elee, gook-goo" to scare little kids,
your favorite sport is basketball,
you're a Comet or a major Comet fan! |

Name one thing that you are most looking forward to learning when in your Sister School community.: Learning what they do when they celebrate something.
Name another thing you are looking forward to: What they do on week ends.

Highlights from our team's thoughts about being a Cultural Ambassador
see more on the Personal Profiles |
What are some things you have learned about being a Cultural Ambassador that really stood out to you?: our culture is different then theirs and I have to teach them ours.
How do you feel about your role as a Cultural Ambassador?: teach them what our cultural is and learn what theirs is.
Do you feel ready to represent your own culture?: I feel ready because I met the people we were staying with and I know a little about them. |

| Destination Seven: The First Time We Meet |
|
|
|
|
This was the Chevak students' 1st time skiing and for some, their 1st time to set eyes on skiis.
|
We learned how to work together. We were told to break into 2 groups. We didn't separate by urban/rural areas. Then we learned to work together instead of competing.
|
We even got to face our fears. This was our 1st time holding a snake.

Their transportation from airport-town
|
We drove to Old Chevak on snowmachines and toboggans. On our way we chased a tundra fox.

| Area for Exploration One: One Thing We Must See Or Experience When We Go To [our Sister School Community] : |
History in the Making.
Historic Hatcher Pass Mine. |
|
What we learned. There is a cross on top of one of the mountain peaks, a huge rock was carried down by a glacier from another mountain, and the mine was privately owned, now the mine is in a state park. |
|
Chevak students never skiied before, but yet they gave it a try. |
|
|
| |
| Area for Exploration Two |
| Dairy Farms |
|
What we learned. They get milk from a certain type of cows, the grass the cows eat turns to milk, they have the cows give birth, then sell the milk that the cow is lactating. |
|
This is where the milk is made. |
|
|
| |
| Area for Exploration Three |
| Wilda's view of Anchorage |
|
What we learned. How Anchorage got its power from a ship, she thinks that Russia didn't have the right to sell Alaska because it wasn't theirs to begin with, and that Elmendorf was Ft. Richardson or vise versa |
