| Thoughts from our team about our first day of the exchange |
If you are visiting: Describe the trip to your Sister School Community.: We left Fairbanks on an Alaska Airlines jet and flew to Anchorage. At the airport, everyone was eating their favorite fast foods and using their cell phones! When we arrived in Bethel, we got all of our snow gear on and took a taxi to the river where we met Chelsea, Sara, Gaelin, and Tim with their snowmachines and sleds. We had a fast and cold trip across the river and arrived at the school to warm up and meet up with everyone else.
If you are visiting: What are your first impressions of the community you are visiting?: Our first impressions of the community was how small and remote it was. The school was SO tiny compared to ours. Everyone as really welcoming and nice. Tim's dad brought salmon strips and Chelsea brought out a warm casserole for everyone to enjoy. We were still rally nervous about staying at our host homes and what the week would bring but we were have fun getting to know everyone.
If you are visiting: What were the best parts of being welcomed to the community?: People we happy to see us and meet us! Tim's dad brought salmon strips and Chelsea brought out a warm casserole for everyone to enjoy. We were still really nervous about staying at our host homes and what the week would bring but we were have fun getting to know everyone. They asked us a lot of questions about our expectations and we asked them about things we were the most unsure of! There as a lot of laughing.
If you are visiting: What are you most looking forward to doing now that you are here?: Most of us want to steam and eat more traditional foods. We are all excited to meet and get to know everyone!

| Area for Exploration One: One Thing We Must See Or Experience When We Go To Napaskiak : |
| Life in Napaskiak..."Napas" |
What we learned. We learned that racing dogs is a big part of the community and sometimes they even come to fairbanks to race! We also learned that most of the dogs on a team are actually related to one another. |

| Area for Exploration Two |
| Yupik Dancing |
What we learned. Traditionally, men played the drums and did most of the singing. Men usually it when they dance and the women stand. The dances tell stories, stories of how things were created, or of actual events that have happened like hunting or fishing adventures. It a form of history, unwritten but passed down through generations. |
Here we are TRYING to dance. It was exhausting! |

| Area for Exploration Three |
| A Taste of Napaskiak |

They make icecream out of berries and crisco
dried salmon aka dry fish is pretty good |
Trying something new! |
