Highlights from our team's thoughts about being a Cultural Ambassador

see more on the Personal Profiles

How do you feel about your role as a Cultural Ambassador?: At first i was nervous but i began to feel comfortable when we became more acquainted.. im very nervous though since it's our turn to go to Palmer...a week and a day away from home...graduation a month away and still unprepared...(sigh.)

What are some things you have learned about being a Cultural Ambassador that really stood out to you?: Cultural Ambassador is like a person chosen to represent their culture. That chosen person travels to another urban or rural village to learn more about the ways of getting things done and learn more about their culture and the ways of their lifestyle.

Destination Seven: The First Time We Meet

We are a human knot - untangled!

Our challenge was to turn over the tarp we were standing on without getting off.

Here is some of our debrief of the Tarp Challenge.

Thoughts from our team about our first day of the exchange

Destination Seven: Getting Reacquianted

As part of getting reaquainted, we climbed the Butte together. It was steep and slippery, but the view at the top was amazing!

We also scaled a wall as a team challenge. Everybody had to get over the wall.

After we were all worn out, we celebrated over Indian Food. It was delicious!

Akiuk Ambassadors getting ready to go to the Colony High School prom.

Alexie's ready to go dance.

Akiuk ambassador ladies all ready for the prom (our host sister helped do our hair!).

Michael's host mom helps rearrange his bow tie.

Alexie is enjoying his first cup(s!) of "sludge" at a Palmer coffee shop.

We made a recording at Wasilla's radio station KMBQ.

Michael demonstrates how NOT to make egg rolls: licking the wrapper shut when cooking for others is not recommended. :)
