You know you’re from Point Hope when…

  1. When you know how to play the Native Games
  2. When you know everybody’s name in the village
  3. When you eat caribou hamburgers
  4. When you still go to school when it is 30 below and stormy
  5. When you know what “Innuqsiksiika” and “Kagmuqtuuk” is
  6. When you are practically related to everyone in the village
  7. When they ring the bell at church you know it is whaling season
  8. When you are a harpooner/harpoonerette fan
  9. When you know where to go hunting
  10. When you know when the sea ice is ready to travel on
  11. When there is a polar bear in town
  12. When you are able to catch your dinner
  13. When you respect elder’s wisdom on cultural ways
  14. When you can live off the land

You might be from Chugiak if.... you can ride a horse... or if i say the Elmandorf air force base... or if you had money.... or if you married a rich person and u lived with them in Chugiak. or if you lived with the famous Chugiak Dog musher Mr. Jim Lanier.

What are some things you have learned about being a Cultural Ambassador that really stood out to you?: What really stood out to me was the knowlege that I had to give to the interviewers.
How do you feel about your role as a Cultural Ambassador?: I feel very lucky that I was chosen to go to Chugiak and represent our culture.
Do you feel ready to represent your own culture?:
Yes I am ready to represent our culture.
