| Destination Two: |
You Might Be From Sitka IF...
if you wear X-tra tuffs to formal events.
if you don’t take showers in the morning because you know you’ll get one when you step outside.
if you learn how to drive a boat before you learn to drive a car.
if, in the summer, your town regularly doubles in the daytime, and returns to normal at night.
when instead of a robin, herring mean spring.
when getting caught in traffic means four cars in front of you.
when the biggest destination is your 17 million dollar auditorium.
when chocolate means theobroma not hershey’s.
if you complain about the ten minute drive from one end of town to the other.
if your fast food options are split between Subway and McDonald’s.
the biggest rivalry you can think of is between the Backdoor and Highliner.
the average summer job involves tourists, coffee, or fish.
when the most widely celebrated holiday is Alaksa Day.
going on a road trip means jumping on a ferry. |

Highlights from our team's thoughts about being a Cultural Ambassador
see more on the Personal Profiles |
What are some things you have learned about being a Cultural Ambassador that really stood out to you?: Being a cultural ambassador requires that a person be polite, understanding and excited to learn something new. These steps really stand out to me because this is often what the world is lacking, which is why ambassadors are so important. We help to spread understand in this world and hopefully promote peace in the world. This is an important job that really stands out to me.
How do you feel about your role as a Cultural Ambassador?: I am happy to take on this role. My number one goal in life is to make people feel as comfortable as possible and that includes feeling comfortable with the differences that we might have. I want to represent my culture as well as I can and learn about cultures that are different from mine. |
