Student Application Part 2: Find a Community Sponsor (PDF)

For Community Sponsors: The role of the community sponsor is to help the student stay in high school and graduate. They will also accompany the student during their junior year to meet professors, advisors, Alaska Native program leaders and students, all or whom will provide additional cultural transition assistance. The community sponsor is a positive role model in the community, preferably not a family member.

For Families: The role of the families is to encourage the student to stay in school, be involved with the students program and help fill out the financial aid forms, with assistance from Take Wing Alaska.

For Educators: Do you want to help build the bridge with rural Alaska Native students as they attend urban post-secondary education? Apply to attend an Alaska Native culture camp to gain cultural awareness and insight to the Native peoples, their culture, and their ways of teaching, learning and living. Teachers attend pre-and post-travel orientation and debriefing sessions. All costs including round trip airfare, camp fees, and college tuition are underwritten by the Take Wing Alaska.
